Fading Forest

Week 11 | Our Brainstorming of Installation Plan, Music and more Designs

Our music for Fading Forest has finally been completed! We have 4 different modes of music in total. All that is left to do is add the music to the Max patch. How Kimberly and Divya figured out how this could be done is through Arduino to Max communication. We found a tutorial patch in Max that showed us how we can send different ASCII numbers to have different commands to be activated. It was shown through random numbers, but the principle would be the same for activating our music. We will use our MP3 shield code and input the music files in there first and then have it sent and activated through a Max playlist. We also have a patch from DATT 2000, which helps us to do that as well. The plan is to have the music output through the surround sound speakers in ACW 103. During this week, Vanessa, Virginia and Divya also started thinking about the installation plan, the animation (using Unity) and the 3D modelling of trees in more detail for the final. For our final installation plan, we are going to have 2 hanging trees that will output colour neopixels depending on a CSV file on the number of chopped trees (it would kind of work like our live data). 5 working trees, which would randomly move to an angle when chopped at random time and change colours to red when there is a forest fire. And 5 dummy trees, which would randomly catch fire and turn red, where users would have to use the RFID tag and light to save and regrow the trees. The pictures below showcases our basic idea of where the dummy trees and working trees are going to be places. The circles represent the dummies (non-moving trees, only light up), the stars are the working (moving and light up trees) and the lines are the wirings to save Arduinos.
