This week was spent thinking about how we can construct a functioning prototype for next week Wednesday. Therefore, this Wednesday, Joel brought us to the AGYU and introduce us to a curator known as Suzanne. This was an opportunity to see how an installation is setup, the work that goes into it, the planning, the difficulties faced etc. It was quite an interesting experience, since the place was pretty dark. The first installation we were introduced to, showcased a series of videos that made participants feel like they were driving behind a wall. There were 4 projections in total. One on each wall, so the participant is left boxed into the space. It was a constant notion, that left you feeling a bit dizzy. What was really interesting about the piece was the fact that it sort of leaves it up to the participants to figure out what they are experiencing at the moment. We also really like the sounds of whispers that enveloped the room. There were speakers scattered all across the room, allowing a dispersion of sounds from various directions. The "La Chupacabra" piece, I think was the most popular piece among the groups. It was this giant, blown up, mythological monster, that captured our faces using camera and was perfectly mapped all around its body. After the gallery visit, our group decided to attempt making a small version of the molecules using a balloon, some yarn and glue. Then we plan on attaching the to bubble tea straws that Andy stole. However, that turned out to be a huge fail after we popped it. We didn't put enough glue, the balloon was not round enough and most importantly, we didn't really let it dry enough. The plan is to re-attempt this again through fixing our previous mistakes.
